Aflac supports #ChildrensHospitalsWeek 2019

Aflac, a leader in voluntary insurance sales at U.S. worksites, is continuing their work to honor children and families facing childhood cancer during Children’s Hospitals Week from March 18-24.

During #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, Aflac will be featuring the My Special Aflac Duck as a part of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ Facebook Live-athon at 8:00pm ET on CMN Hospitals’ Facebook page. One special patient, Kaylee, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at just three years old, will have her own My Special Aflac Duck live on stage.

Supporters of CMN Hospitals are being asked to demonstrate their commitment to #ChildrensHospitalsWeek by posting a photo of themselves wearing a bandage with a child’s name on social media. Aflac will be distributing official #ChildrensHospitalsWeek bandages to employees at their headquarters as well as their market offices throughout the country.

Over the past year, Aflac has delivered the My Special Aflac Duck to pediatric cancer patients at local CMN Hospitals across the nation. The robotic duck is designed to help children and parents cope with the treatments often associated with cancer. The duck uses sensors and special emoji cards to interact with children, sharing their emotions, providing comfort through empathy and serving as a special friend to combat the feeling of loneliness that children with cancer often experience.

As a part of their mission to provide a My Special Aflac Duck to all pediatric cancer patients above the age of three, local children’s hospitals have been able to order ducks free of charge to share with their own pediatric patients. Healthcare providers who treat children with cancer can register to order these amazing ducks, at no cost, at AflacChildhoodCancer.org/MyDuck.

In 2019, Aflac aims to distribute 10,000 My Special Aflac Ducks to hospitals throughout the United States.

In 2018, Aflac’s CEO, Dan Amos, participated in CMN Hospitals’ Tough Questions series and sat down with Chloe, a young cancer survivor, to chat about responsible companies and how the My Special Aflac Duck is helping kids cope with cancer.

In an effort to increase its impact across the country, Aflac and CMN Hospitals plan to launch new opportunities for engagement between Aflac and local CMN Hospitals. This will provide an excellent platform to deepen relationships in the communities the company serves.
